How we work
Editorial policy and methodology
Costa Rica Hub standards for research, sourcing, review, updates, corrections and editorial independence.
Scope of this policy
Last reviewed: 31 August 2026. This policy applies to Costa Rica Hub guides, articles, destination pages, cultural features and tools in Spanish and English.
It is designed to help readers distinguish what we verified, where a fact came from, what its limits are and how to request a correction. Legal pages govern privacy and use of the site; this page describes the editorial process.
What warrants its own page
We publish a page when it answers a concrete need and can provide substantial information beyond a title, generic list or set of external links. A route is not published merely to target a keyword, province or future category.
When several pages would repeat the same explanation, we prefer to consolidate them into one useful guide or index. Drafts, future inventories and pages that only promise later content do not belong in public navigation or advertising inventory.
Source selection and hierarchy
For requirements, laws, fees, statistics, hours and closures, we prioritise the responsible institution: official legislation, public bodies, protected-area administrators, universities and service-provider documentation. When a primary source lacks context, we may add identified academic or journalistic sources.
We do not copy a source and call it an article. We verify the relevant fact and add organisation, comparison, cautions, assumptions and practical steps. An external link lets readers check the claim; it does not replace our explanation.
Verification and currency
Before publication we check that the title matches the content, links work, figures state their period and currency, and sensitive claims have a suitable source. Visible dates reflect publication or a material review, not a cosmetic edit.
Fees, weather, tides, roads, requirements and capacity may change after review. We therefore distinguish relatively stable guidance from conditions that must be confirmed through an official source on the day. We do not apply a recent date merely to make old information appear current.
Original contribution and translations
Our contribution should support a decision: compare options, explain why a fact matters, identify foreseeable mistakes, describe limitations and turn scattered sources into an actionable sequence. Third-party maps, photographs, tables or links are supporting material, not a page’s main value.
Both language versions preserve the same sources and conclusions while adapting them for comprehension. Hreflang annotations declare that relationship so the editions are not presented as copies aimed at the same audience.
Authorship and review
Brandon Barquero, founder and editor of Costa Rica Hub, assumes editorial responsibility for the project. The byline identifies a real person and does not imply first-hand experience, institutional affiliation or professional credentials unless expressly stated.
For legal, financial, employment or safety topics, he explains general information and links to the competent authority. If a specialist reviews a publication, the page must state their name, role and the scope of that review.
Corrections and changes
We accept reports at [email protected]. To verify them, we ask for the URL, questioned passage, reason and, where available, a source. Issues that may affect safety, money, access or requirements receive priority.
A material correction should change both the content and its update date. We may remove a page that no longer meets the editorial standard, whose sources can no longer be verified or that would serve readers better as part of a consolidated guide.
Advertising and independence
Advertising is kept separate from content and is not placed on empty pages, drafts, errors or screens whose main purpose is navigation. Advertising must never outweigh editorial content.
Google AdSense or another advertising provider does not choose our conclusions. A business cannot pay to change an editorial assessment; any future sponsored content must be labelled before the text and explain the commercial relationship.
